Medicine
Laboratory: PEMC offers an in-house diagnostic lab which offers services in hematology, chemistries, blood gas and cytology. We work with a variety of other labs throughout the country in order to achieve the most comprehensive diagnoses available in equine medicine.
Ultrasound: Ultrasound is used to evaluate pneumonia, abdominal pain, cardiac disease, umbilical infection, anatomical sites with a mass or swelling, pregnancy, as well as joint, tendon, and ligament injuries. Since ultrasound produces a “real time” image, information about moving structures such as the heart and intestinal tract can be obtained.
Endoscope: PEMC has both a 1m and a 3m scope which allow us to visualize the upper airways, the eosophagus, the stomach (gastroscopy) or the bladder. Read more about stomach ulcers here.
Hospital wing: The main hospital wing consists of 8 stalls, all equipped with heaters, cool-water misters and video cameras. Two indoor, climate controlled intensive care stalls are also available.
Intensive Care: The intensive care unit consists of two stalls in a climate controlled barn. All the stalls in the clinic are monitored 24 hours a day using closed circuit video cameras. We also have 2 veterinarians that live on site.
Specialists: PEMC has great relationships with a variety of specialists in our area who we routinely consult on cases, and that will gladly come to our facility to see a patient. Areas include cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology and internal medicine.
