Internship, Externship and Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in Peninsula Equine, Equine Medicine & Surgery Group. We are a state of the art, full service equine veterinary hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Internship Program

Peninsula Equine Medical Center is proud to offer an internship program for top new veterinary graduates. Veterinary interns are licensed veterinarians who have voluntarily chosen to continue their education post-graduation through a vigorous one year lameness, medicine, and surgery internship. This highly competitive program is open to new or recent graduates of veterinary school looking to focus in equine veterinary medicine.

Internships at Peninsula Equine Medical Center focus upon Equine Sports Medicine. Training is rotated between hospital and ambulatory phases to provide well rounded exposure to both. More details on our internship can be found on our AAEP Avenues Webpage.

We highly recommend at least a one week externship prior to internship application. Internship applications for the 2011-2012 year are due by December 1st, 2010. Internships can be arranged by either emailing Marion at marion@peneq.com or calling Peninsula Equine at 650-854-3162.

Externship Program

Externship opportunities are open to current veterinary students looking to gain additional equine experience. Externships focus on exposing the individual to the private sport horse equine practice environment. You will rountinely ride with doctors on ambulatory calls, observe surgery, and assist the interns with the care of in-house patients.

Housing is available at the clinic upon request. Since you will have frequent client contact, you will be expected to dress professionally and conduct yourselves in a professional manner. We encourage a stay of at least one week. Externships can be arranged by either emailing Marion at marion@peneq.com or calling Peninsula Equine at 650-854-3162.

Volunteer Program

Our volunteer program allows those looking to apply to veterinary school the opportunity to experience equine veterinary medicine at a busy referral hospital. Volunteers will be under the direct supervision of a veterinary technician and will have the opportunity to observe lameness exams, surgery, ultrasounds, stem cell therapy, and much more. Volunteers will often have the opportunity to ride along with veterinarians for field calls as well.

Our volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Interested volunteers should arrange for a one day working interview by either emailing Anna at info@peneq.com or calling Peninsula Equine at 650-854-3162.
