Externships

Our externship program is open to veterinary medical students and is a precursor to our internship program. This gives us time to meet you, an you time to see if the clinic fits your internship expectations.

The program is available all year round, however we encourage externs to plan to stay at least two weeks. Externs will gain experience with medical and surgical procedures as well as emergency cases. Externs also spend time out on ambulatory calls with a veterinarian.

This externship is not just one of those sit around and watch type of externships. You will become a part of the team. The externs are required to assist with treatments, participate in daily rounds and assist doctors with procedures.

There is a place to stay at the clinic with an adjacent kitchenette and bathroom. sheets and towels are provided.

Peninsula Equine is located 30 minutes from both San Francisco International Airport and San Jose International Airport. Supershuttle is available from the airport to the clinic for approximately $25 (contact the shuttle service for a more accurate quote.)

To apply for an externship, call or e-mail and provide us with the dates you would like to visit.

We suggest externs stay 2 weeks, but most stay 3-4 weeks.

Remember, to participate in our externship program, you must be a student in an accredited school of veterinary medicine.

We will also request a copy of your curriculum vitae or resume as part of your application.
